Polish president bestows medal upon Illinois governor, Guard members

Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski visited Illinois Army National Guard Soldiers and five Polish officers who were conducting training May 20, 2012 at the Marseilles Training Center in Marseilles, Ill. Komorowski was accompanied by Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn and senior leaders of the Illinois National Guard, to include Army Maj. Gen. William L. Enyart, the adjutant general of the Illinois National Guard. Komorowski presented Quinn, Enyart, and 13 other Illinois Guard members with the Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland, an honor that is bestowed upon foreigners for distinguished contributions to international cooperation with the nation of Poland.

The team, all members of the 224th Joint Communications Support Squadron, a Georgia Air National Guard unit aligned to JCSE, will provide essential unclassified and classified communications capabilities throughout the duration of the mission.

The 123rd was participating in an exercise to test its response to a simulated earthquake in the New Madrid Seismic Zone, a fault line that originates near New Madrid, Mo., and stretches southwest across four states.  About 20 Kentucky Airmen, all assigned to the 123rd’s Initial Response Hub package, assessed Campbell Army Airfield for earthquake damage, determined the kinds of airlift operations the facility could support and opened the ramp for incoming relief and aeromedical evacuation flights within five hours of being called to duty. Afghanistan: Guard members assist with large-scale inoculation project

A member of the Afghan National Civil Order Police secures a sheep for inoculation by an Afghan veterinarian while other members of the ANCOP and the International Security Assistance Force attempt to keep the other sheep in a central location. The 1st Battalion, 125th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team assisted their ANCOP partners during this operation. The 37th IBCT is deployed to northern Afghanistan in support of ISAF in order to build Afghan National Police capacity.
