NEW ORLEANS, - Louisiana National Guardsmen of the 1022nd
Engineer Company, 527th Engineer Battalion, have been assisting boat
operators in the Breton Sound Marina in Hopedale, La., with loading boom
materials onto their vessels.
"We're helping to keep a grasp on what we're sending out," said 2nd Lt.
Clinton J. Gleason, officer in charge of operations. "It brings some order
to everything, knowing what we have coming in on the trucks and going out on
the boats."
The engineers are working with different companies such as Oil Mop, LLC and
United States Environmental Services, LLC, at the marina.
"When you have so many different groups of people working on one project,
you might think you'd run into some problems," said Cpl. Joshua D. Hayes, an
engineer with the 1022nd. "However, things have been running smoothly."
"Everybody seems pretty happy with our help," Gleason said. "They want us to
stay on and help out for as long as we can."
The 1022nd is also providing security and equipment support to sites at
Shell Beach, La., and Delacroix, La.
