COLUMBUS, Ohio - Brig. Gen. (Select) Robert Boggs, vice wing commander of the 121st Air Refueling Wing, has been selected as the new chief of staff for the Ohio Air National Guard and promoted to the rank of Brigadier General.
In his role as chief of staff Boggs will serve as a member of the Joint Force Headquarters at Beightler Armory in Columbus. He replaces Brig. Gen. Homer Smith, who will be retiring in 2007.
"Robert has given the 121st many years of tremendous service and our loss is surely State Headquarter's gain," said Brig. Gen. Tom Botchie, 121st Ar Refueling Wing commander.
As chief of staff, Boggs' responsibilities will include evaluation, issue resolution, action recommendation, technical assistance and guidance for the more than 5,000 members of the Ohio Air National Guard.
As vice wing commander, Boggs was responsible for 1,400 personnel and the operation of two KC-135 tanker aircraft squadrons. He enlisted in the 178th Combat Support Squadron, Ohio ANG, at Springfield Municipal Airport, Ohio, in 1971 and served in various support and command positions throughout Ohio's four flying wings.
Boggs resides in South Vienna, Ohio with his wife Cindy, daughter Fleming, and son Sage. He holds a doctorate in organizational development from The Union Institute, Cincinnati, Ohio.
Boggs' military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal.
