Alaska Air National Guard rescues bear-mauling victim

Alaska Air National Guard Tech. Sgt. Katelyn Magnuson, Alaska Rescue Coordination Center senior search-and-rescue controller, took the call and was responsible for planning for and controlling the rescue effort for the victim of a bear mauling near Galena June 10, 2019. The AK RCC is the nerve center for search-and-rescue operations for an area of Alaska equivalent to one third the area of the Lower 48.

Swamp Fox Airmen fly ‘Missing Man’ formation for former POW

Retired Air Force Col. Jack Van Loan, fighter pilot and Vietnam prisoner of war, was honored with a Missing Man flyover during his funeral at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Oct. 26, 2019. He received full military honors  for his nearly 30 years of service, including 2,116 days in the North Vietnamese prison nicknamed the Hanoi Hilton.

SC Guard members help Bahamian hurricane victims

C-130H crew lands at international air show

Red Arrow Soldier laid to rest 75 years after death in WWII

Army Tech 5th Grade John E. Bainbridge of Sheboygan, Wis., was laid to rest Sept. 29, 2019, in Monona more than 75 years after his death during the Battle of Buna in World War II. Bainbridge joined the Wisconsin National Guard’s 32nd Infantry Division in 1940 and was killed in New Guinea Dec. 2, 1942; he rested unknown in Manila American Cemetery until his remains were identified via DNA analysis by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency.
