Idaho Guard trains wrecker drivers for deployment

Staff Sgt. Hussey shows Spc. Grant Flegel the interior controls of the HEMTT wrecker during a training session at the Gowen Field Training Area in Idaho for the upcoming deployment of the 116th Calvary Brigade Combat Team of the Idaho National Guard. This training session is to teach the drivers of the HEMTTs to be better able to handle any problems with their vehicle and helping to tow other broken down vehicles.

The 199th is transitioning from the F-15 to the F-22 Raptor, which is a fifth generation fighter. The 199th has flown the F-15 since 1987 and received their first two Raptors on July 9, 2010.

Virginia Guard chaplains serve Soldiers in Gulf

Chaplain (Capt.) Jeffery Hicks, left, provides chaplain services to Louisiana National Guard Soldiers. Two Virginia National Guard chaplain support teams headed to Louisiana in late July to provide chaplain services to military personnel from all over the country assisting with recovery operations for the Deep Water Horizon oil spill. A chaplain support team consists of one chaplain and one chaplain’s assistant, and the teams provide chaplain support in the form of religious services, Bible study and counseling.

Army Maj. Nathlon Jackson receives the Soldier’s Medal from Gen. Craig McKinley, chief of the National Guard Bureau, during a ceremony at the Army Guard Readiness Center in Arlington, Va., Aug. 18, 2010. Jackson received the award for her bravery on Jan. 11, 2010, when she entered a burning home and rescued Shirley Rollins, who had been overcome by smoke from the fire. The Soldier’s Medal is the Army’s highest non-combat medal.
