Both public information officers are participating in exercise Vigilant Guard in Anchorage, Alaska, Monday, April 26, 2010. Their job is to help release information to the public that will ultimately save lives.Vigilant Guard is an annual, disaster-based training scenario that tests the coordination of National Guard units with local, state, regional, and national disaster preparedness organizations.

Army Col. R. Allen Boyette, Joint Task Force-Tarheel Executive Officer, and Army Capt. Patrick Brozowski, Joint Task Force -Tarheel Battle Captain, examine the cargo area of a charter bus prior to loading the bus with personal and unit equipment. JTF-Tarheel is composed of service members from the North Carolina National Guard. They are participating in the Alaska National Guard's Vigilant Guard exercise. During the Vigilant Guard exercise the state of Alaska will also be conducting the State of Alaska's Alaska Shield exercise and the Joint Task Force Alaska's Artic Edge exercise. All three of these exercises will be testing the capabilities of the local, state and federal authorities to handle a natural disaster, pending one occurred in the state of Alaska.

Spangdahlem F-16s headed for Minnesota

An F-16 Fighting Falcon takes off from the flightline here April 27, 2010. Six F-16's permanently departed Spangdahlem Air Base for the 148th Fighter Wing, Minnesota Air National Guard, Duluth, Minn., as part of the Combat Air Forces Restructuring plan. The six aircraft were the first of 21 to depart the base.

MAFFS deploys a fire retardant mixed with fertilizer and red dye, but water is used for training purposes.
