Virginia National Guard again activated for snow duty

The Virginia Guard alerted approximately 70 Soldiers March 4, 2015, to stage and be ready for possible response operations due to heavy snow or flooding. Soldiers from the Staunton-based 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team will stage in Winchester, Staunton, Leesburg, Fredericksburg and Harrisonburg, and Soldiers from the Gate City-based 1030th Transportation Battalion will stage in Gate City.

Members of the Kentucky Army Guard have been on duty throughout the eastern and southern portions of the state assisting with clearing roads, emergency response and distribution of food, water and other supplies to those hardest hit by winter storms that moved through the area recently. Guard members in Arkansas and Virginia have been called out as well in response to winter weather that affected those areas.

The Pennsylvania Army National Guard’s Construction and Facilities Management Office were recently awarded the National Guard's Fred Aron Award for Excellence in Facilities Programs for being the highest performing Guard program in the nation. Competitors are judged on 10 areas including construction, resource management, strategic planning and facilities management.

109th Airlift Wing wraps up 27th year of Antarctic science support

The 109th AW recently wrapped up its 27th season of flying the ski-equipped LC-130 in support of the operation, which provides military logistics support to the National Science Foundation’s Antarctic Program. The wing is the only unit in the U.S. military equipped with the LC-130 “Skibirds.”
