Oregon National Guard platoon awarded Presidential Unit Citation

Army Maj. Gen. Raymond Rees, the adjutant general, Oregon (left), stands with Oregon Attorney General John Kroger, 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team commander Army Col. Eric Bush, and 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry Regiment commander Army Lt. Col. Eric Riley, during a ceremony honoring soldiers of 2nd Platoon, Bravo Company, 2-162 IN BN, where they were awarded the Presidential Unit Citation at the Corvallis Armory, Jan. 8. The soldiers received the award for their heroic actions during the Battle of Fallujah, Iraq in November 2004.

Kuchi tribesman and Afghan veterinary workers herd sheep toward the chutes where the animals were de-wormed and vaccinated as part of a Veterinary Outreach Sustainment Program for the nomadic Kuchi tribesman camped in the Noor Gal District of Afghanistan's Kunar province Jan. 8. The VOSPs are underwritten by the Iowa National Guard's 734th Agribusiness Development Team and implemented by the Kunar provincial veterinarian.

Army Maj. Gen. Robert Livingston, Jr., the new adjutant general of the South Carolina National Guard, addresses the crowd gathered to witness his assumption of command during a ceremony January 9, 2011, at the University of South Carolina Coliseum. Kentucky Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Chris Eden was awarded the Purple Heart Nov. 6 after receiving wounds in an IED explosion in Afghanistan on Oct. 30. Eden was presented the award by Maj. Gen. Edward W. Tonini, adjutant general for Kentucky, in a small ceremony at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Eden is a member of the Guard's 2123rd Transportation Company and a police officer for the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Division of Police.
