Staff Sgt. Zachary E. Swain, a tactical air control party craftsman from the 238th Air Support Operations Squadron in Meridian, Miss., received an award for being the 1,000th graduate of The I.G. Brown Air National Guard Training and Education Center's Instructional Development branch. Swain was presented the award by Col Richard B. Howard, commander of the TEC, when he graduated from the instructor certification program course during a ceremony held at Morrissey Hall here, April 3.

Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk, North Dakota National Guard adjutant general, presents Staff Sgt. Justin J. Lampert with a commander's coin for excellence at the Fargo Armed Forces Reserve Center on April 3. Lampert led a quick reaction force team that responded to the breach at Oak Grove Lutheran School and taught helicopter sling-loading operations to fellow Guardsmen to ensure proper hook-up of 1-ton sandbags. He volunteered to fight the flood and paid his own way back to North Dakota from Fort Benning, Ga., where he was instructing Air Assault School.

North Dakota NCO displays coolness under pressure

"He's just a good NCO," a leader recently said of Sgt. Matt J. Walstad, a member of the North Dakokta Army National Guard's 957th Liaison Monitoring Team out of Bismarck, N.D. His efforts, both by land and sea, have greatly contributed to Guardsmen's safety, as well as the flood-fighting efforts in Fargo, N.D.
