Respectful hearts keep weary feet marching in Bataan Death March

Team Juggernaut, made up of five Soldiers from Green Bay-based Co., B, 2-127th Infantry crossed the finish line in first place in the National Guard Heavy category of the 2009 Bataan Memorial Death March at White Sands Missile Range in Las Cruces, N.M., on March 29, 2009. The team included: Spc. Andrew Vannieuwehoven, Green Bay; Pfc. Jesse Tlachac, Sturgeon Bay; Sgt. Ryan Gries, Madison; Pfc. Eric Sallenbach, Green Bay; and Pfc. Kyle Cooper, Appleton.

Helping families as they plan for their Soldier's return

Duckworth, former director of the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs, said Vietnam veterans taught America a lot of lessons. She said "It doesn't matter where you stand on war, you must love the warrior." Illinois National Guard Family Academies were implemented in 2008 to prepare Soldiers' loved ones for their return and give families the tools and insight to ease the challenges of reintegration.
