TEC's instructional program graduates 1,000th student

By Master Sgt. Mavi Smith Tennessee National Guard

McGHEE TYSON AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Tenn. - The I.G. Brown Air National Guard Training and Education Center's Instructional Development (ID) branch graduated its 1,000th student during a ceremony held at Morrissey Hall here today.

"Today, we get to pay tribute and honor to the ID branch," said Col. Richard B. Howard, the TEC commander. "This 1,000th student represents the accomplishments of the ID branch and gives TEC the continued opportunity to help the total force gain training and education that will keep our nation not just educated but safe."

The TEC's Instructional Development branch develops in residence and web-based training curriculum and provides instructor certification courses and a variety of management skills training to DoD organizations.

The 1,000th student, Staff Sgt. Zachary E. Swain, a tactical air control party craftsman from the 238th Air Support Operations Squadron in Meridian, Miss., is a graduate of the TEC's instructor certification program course.

This two-week course is offered to DoD members who are required to instruct as part of their duties. Students learn the fundamentals of adult learning and how to prepare lesson plans, give effective presentations and evaluate student learning.

Swain said he will use the skills he learned to provide tactical air control party field training to members of his unit.

He completed the course along with servicemembers and civil servants from the Air Force, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve and Navy.
