103rd, 109th back science foundation mission in Greenland

U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Josh Panis, 118th Airlift Squadron assistant director of operations and mission aircraft commander, flies a C-130H Hercules over Greenland Feb. 10, 2021. The 103rd Airlift Wing transported 12 National Science Foundation personnel and their equipment from Stratton Air National Guard Base in Scotia, New York, to Kangerlussuaq, Greenland, for the beginning of their annual climate research mission at Greenland’s ice cap.

109th Airlift Wing wraps up Antarctic research support

A New York Air National Guard Airman on duty in Antarctica on Feb. 5, 2021, during a mission conducted in support of the National  Science Foundation by the 109th Airlift Wing. The 109th Airlift Wing deployed three LC-130  "Skibird" aircraft and 50 Airmen to Christchurch, New Zealand, to run missions as required to Antarctica as part of the Department of Defense's Operation Deep Freeze.

New York National Guard supports NORAD Santa tracking

Mills and Brown were prepping for Christmas Eve, when EADS will support the North American Aerospace Defense Command's (NORAD) Santa tracking operation. Tracking operations start at 4 a.m. EST on Dec. 24 on the www.noradsanta.org website. At 6 a.m. EST, children and parents can call toll-free to inquire about Santa at 1-877-Hi-NORAD (1-877-446-6723).

109th AW on standby in New Zealand for Antarctica missions

The 109th normally provides logistics support to U.S. Antarctic research operations by flying people, equipment and supplies around the continent. Because of COVID-19, the wing will deploy aircraft to New Zealand this year where they will be on standby.

An A-10 Thunderbolt II from the 107th Fighter Squadron, Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich., taxis to a hot-pit maintenance area set up by the 174th Maintenance Group Detachment 1 maintenance team during Northern Strike 20 in Alpena, Mich., July 27, 2020. The 174th MXG Det. 1 is a New York Air National Guard unit located in Ft. Drum, New York. The unit has provided maintenance support to Northern Strike since 2012. Northern Strike is the National Guard Bureau’s largest joint, multi-component exercise and takes place at the National All-Domain Warfighting Center in Northern Michigan.
