Arkansas Guard rescues boy scouts stranded by flood waters

Members of a Boy Scout group from Louisiana who were stranded by floodwaters in a remote section of the Ouachita National Forest in southwest Arkansas enjoy the view from an Arkansas National Guard helicopter that rescued them early Tuesday, May 3, 2011. The six Scouts and two adult leaders had been stranded without communications since Sunday.

Missouri National Guard Citizen-Soldiers Spc. Junior Bombard, of Ozark and Sgt. Tim Bridges, both of the 1138th Military Police Company, located in West Plains and Springfield, earned the title Citizen-Heroes after being caught on videotape while completing a daring rescue of a 93-year-old woman on the swollen Black River.

Tornado damage to Lambert Air National Guard base tops $10 million

Cleanup efforts continue at the 131st Bomb Wing just days after a category
EF2 tornado hit Lambert-Saint Louis International Airport and swept across
the Lambert-Saint Louis Air National Guard Base, April 22, 2011. No injuries
were reported to Air National Guard personnel, but there was widespread
damage across the south side of the base. Estimates for repair to the base
could top $10 million.
