Employers brace for Kentucky National Guard mobilization

Louisville Metro Police officers and Kentucky National Guardmembers Sgt. Scott Sturgeon and Sgt. Donald Gosney will be taking a break from their civilian job to deploy with the 149th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade this summer.

Louisiana Air Guardsman first to graduate Army leadership course

Air Force Tech. Sgt. Philip Olivier, a 159th Operations Group intelligence analyst, was the first-ever Louisiana Air National Guardsman to attend the Army’s Advanced Leader Course at Camp Cook in Ball, La., Jan. 8 to 20, 2011. ALC teaches Soldiers the values, attributes, actions and the technical and tactical skills needed to lead squad and platoon-level operations. For the Air Guard, it provides a unique opportunity to understand and appreciate “Army speak” while training in a joint environment.

Shauna Rohbock, of the Utah Army National Guard, (right) and Michelle Rzepka push USA I to a start time of 5.20 seconds in the third heat of the Olympic women's bobsled event at the Whistler Sliding Centre. They finished sixth in the competition with a four-run combined time of 3 minutes, 34.06 seconds. The Canadian duo of Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse won the gold medal in 3:32.28. Rohbock is considering retiring from the sport after the 2011 World Championships.

South Carolina National Guard Changes Leadership

Kentucky Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Chris Eden was awarded the Purple Heart Nov. 6 after receiving wounds in an IED explosion in Afghanistan on Oct. 30. Eden was presented the award by Maj. Gen. Edward W. Tonini, adjutant general for Kentucky, in a small ceremony at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Eden is a member of the Guard's 2123rd Transportation Company and a police officer for the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Division of Police.
