Paula Rodriguez, a traditional Guard member with the Texas Army National Guard is the deputy sexual assault prevention and response coordinator and brings her volunteer duty and experience with her to southern Iraq. In her hometown of Austin, Texas, she manages the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response program and works with the military and local community to provide the care needed for sexual assault and domestic violence victims by assigning advocates to them.
Florida National Guard producing alternative fuels at Camp Blanding

Jessika Blersch, the sustainability coordinator for the Florida National Guard's Camp Blanding Joint Training Center, pumps methanol into a biodiesel processor while processing vegetable oil from the installation's Consolidated Dining Facility into biodiesel. The cleaner-burning biodiesel is used to fuel state maintenance vehicles and saves the Guard money while also reducing the amount of waste that comes out of the installation.

Iowa National Guard continues to support Missouri River flood response

A UH-60 Black Hawk hooks on to a large bag of sand to deliver to residents along the Missouri river June 8, 2011. Four UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters from the Minnesota and Iowa National Guard and a CH-47 Chinook from the Illinois Army National Guard have been providing support by delivering sandbags to many of the critical areas along the river and by monitoring critical areas along the coast line. Over 400 National Guard members have been activated to provide support to many of the communities along the Missouri who are in danger of flooding.
