Youth Challenge Academy at Milledgeville, Ga., graduates its first class

Guard members dominate Army marksmanship competition

Army Sgt. Max Nickerson, an avionics mechanic with the Maine Army National Guard's Company D, 3rd Battalion, 142nd Aviation Regiment, earned first place in the U.S. Army Small Arms Championship competition, March 12-18 at Fort Benning, Georgia. Out of the competition's 23 categories, Guard members gave up first place standings in just two, and the top seven of the 35 teams competing in the team category were Guard teams.

Social media misconduct won't be tolerated, Army leader says

Harassment, bullying, hazing, stalking, discrimination, retaliation and any type of misconduct that undermines dignity and respect - including that done online on social media platforms - will not be tolerated by the Army, said Maj. New Army jungle footwear gives ‘Trench Foot’ the boot

The Army Jungle Combat Boot, now under development, features a low-height heel to prevent snags on things like vines in a jungle environment; additional drainage holes to let water out if it becomes completely soaked, speed laces so that soldiers can don and doff the boots more quickly, a redesigned upper to make the boots less tight when they are new, an insert that helps improve water drainage, a lining that helps the boot breathe better and dry faster; a ballistic fabric-like layer under a soldier's foot to help prevent punctures, and a foam layer between the rubber sole and the upper to provide greater shock absorbing capability. The boot will initially be issued to two full brigade combat teams in Hawaii, part of the 25th Infantry Division, for evaluation.

Steven deMilliano, right, the 176th Wing commander, fly a C-130 Hercules aircraft on the unit’s final flight with the C-130s, March 4, 2017. After 41 years of flying the C-130 aircraft, the 144th Airlift Squadron’s eight C-130s were divested, with the planes either being transferred to outside units or retired from service. The unit’s last two aircraft departed Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, the following day.
