An Alaska Air National Guard HH-60 Pave Hawk, from the 210th Rescue Squadron, performs a simulated search and rescue pattern in Alaska. The 210th Rescue Squadron is part of a network of search-and-rescue organizations that save hundreds of lives in and around Alaska every year.

The WVARNG worked hand-in-hand with other civilian first responders to quickly react and save lives.

Sgt. Frances Bird Collins, a Soldier with the New Mexico Army National Guard's 1116th Transportation Company, is participating in the water haul mission in support of those residents unable to leave their livestock on the edges of the Dog Head Fire. Even though a mandatory evacuation has been in place for days, some ranchers chose to accept the risk of staying on their land in the affected Torrance County area. The National Guard has been hauling water to some of the tanks and troughs that need to be filled for the welfare of the animals.
