Duckworth, former director of the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs, said Vietnam veterans taught America a lot of lessons. She said "It doesn't matter where you stand on war, you must love the warrior." Illinois National Guard Family Academies were implemented in 2008 to prepare Soldiers' loved ones for their return and give families the tools and insight to ease the challenges of reintegration.
