N.Y. 109th Airlift Wing sends 'Skibird' to Paris Air Show

An LC-130 assigned to the  New York Air National Guard's 109th Airlift Wing on display at the Paris Air Show on June 18, 2019. The NP2000 propellers, which provide more power and enable fuel economy, are unique and the reason why the wing was invited to attend. The LC-130 Skibird is the largest aircraft in the world which uses skis to land on snow and ice.

W.Va. Guard engineers support Resolute Castle in Romania

West Virginia Army National Guard Soldiers with the 1092nd Engineer Battalion, 601st Engineer Support Company (ESC) and 115th Vertical Construction Company (VCC) participate in Resolute Castle 19 at the Joint National Training Center (JNTC) / Cincu Training Area (CTA)  in Cincu, Romania, June 10 - 29, 2019. Exercise Resolute Castle 19 is a U.S. Army Europe – led, multinational, joint exercise occurring from April – September which marries U.S. Army Reserve and National Guard, as well as allied and partner nation engineering unit training opportunities with the completion of tangible construction projects.

Changes in GI Bill transfer benefits coming July 12
June 18, 2019
National Guard members will soon see changes to the program that allows them to transfer their Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits to their spouse or children that will limit the time frame they can initiate that transfer. Set to go in effect July 12, Guard members will need to have served six years before they can transfer benefits and they must transfer the benefits by the time they hit 16 years of service. Additionally, Guard members extend their enlistment contract by at least four years to transfer benefits.

Idaho Guard works with SWAT team to boost marksmanship

Sgt. 1st Class Jared Frogley, the IDNG state marksmanship NCO in charge engages precision fire on targets with a bolt-action scope rifle as the Idaho National Guard marksmanship team participated for the first time in the urban and rural sniper training held in Melba by the Treasure Valley's SWAT sniper element. The Meridian Police Department sponsored the course and the SWAT team instructors volunteered their time and to produce the intense 50-hour, five-day course, held from June 3 through June 7, 2019.

The lack of power introduced a new obstacle for service members to overcome while training in a real world scenario.
