Virginia Guard chaplains serve Soldiers in Gulf

Chaplain (Capt.) Jeffery Hicks, left, provides chaplain services to Louisiana National Guard Soldiers. Two Virginia National Guard chaplain support teams headed to Louisiana in late July to provide chaplain services to military personnel from all over the country assisting with recovery operations for the Deep Water Horizon oil spill. A chaplain support team consists of one chaplain and one chaplain’s assistant, and the teams provide chaplain support in the form of religious services, Bible study and counseling.

Antonio is working with the 797th Engineering Company (Vertical) from Barrigada, Guam and the Mongolian Armed Forces during Khaan Quest 2010. Sgt Antonio’s is responsible for providing medical support to both US and Mongolian participants.

Craig McKinley, chief of the National Guard Bureau, during a ceremony at the Army Guard Readiness Center in Arlington, Va., Aug. 18, 2010. Jackson received the award for her bravery on Jan. 11, 2010, when she entered a burning home and rescued Shirley Rollins, who had been overcome by smoke from the fire. The Soldier’s Medal is the Army’s highest non-combat medal.
