Alaska Guard assists with winter storm emergency evacuations

Alaska Air and Army National Guard Airman 1st Class John Villa and Spc. Matthew Ogawa prepare the arctic all-terrain small unit support vehicle to support of the Alaska State Emergency Operations Center. Villa and Ogawa and several other Alaska National Guard members volunteered to support their community, Fairbanks North Star Borough, with emergency transportation needs during a winter storm resulting in extreme snow and ice conditions.

Stefano James, a UH-60L Black Hawk medevac helicopter crew chief, provide critical care to a 75-year-old man after he fell into a river and stopped breathing Aug. 12, 2021. The crew, from Detachment 2, G Company, 2nd Battalion, 211th Aviation Regiment, hoisted the patient into the aircraft and flew him to a hospital after he was revived by a fishing guide.

Alaska National Guard rescues stranded mountaineers

Pararescue personnel with the Alaska Air National Guard’s 210th Rescue Squadron used an HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter like this one in the search for 12 mountaineers stranded in poor weather on Klutlan Glacier southeast of Mt. Bona in Wrangell-St Elias National Park. The mountaineers were rescued June 1 after the 1st Battalion, 207th Aviation Regiment, dispatched an Alaska Army National Guard CH-47 Chinook with a paramedic from the 2nd Battalion, 211 Aviation Regiment.
