Airman Samual Prescott, a pararescue jumper assigned to the New York Air National Guard's 103rd Rescue Squadron, an element of the 106th Rescue Wing, monitors a patient during a training exercise conducted at F.S. New York National Guard member honored for heroism in her own neighborhood

New York Army National Guard Major General Patrick Murphy, the adjutant general of New York, presents the New York State Medal for Valor, the state's highest military award, to Staff Sgt. Marlana Watson, of Lindenhurst, New York, on  Aug. 19, 2015, at the Farmingdale Armed Forces Reserve Center. Watson, a member of the New York Army National Guard's Recruiting and Retention Battalion and a medic, was recognized for rushing across a Syracuse Street on Nov. 5, 2014, to treat two teenagers injured in a drive-by shooting, without regard for her own safety, since the shooter may have still been in the area.
