Alaska Guardsmen save 48 lives in 2009

Pararescuemen Staff Sgt. Jeremy Madama, on ground, and Master Sgt. Johhny Davis deploy from a 210th Rescue Squadron HH-60 Pave Hawk via fast rope. Both are members of the Alaska National Guard, which saved 48 lives in Alaska in 2009 and assisted 12 others to safety during another busy year.

Mike Kohn, an infantryman with the Virginia Army National Guard, contemplates ways he can improve his run while competing in the bobsleedding trials at the Lake Placid Winter Olympics Training Complex in Lake Placid, N.Y., earlier this year. He was victorious in four out of five competitions in the Lake Placid America's Cup competitions held from Dec. 18-20, 2009.
