Texas ANG prepares for Haiti duty

An RC-26 from the 147th Reconnaissance Wing of the Texas Air National Guard that has proven its value during many of the recent domestic emergencies is being deployed to Haiti this week. The RC-26, an aircraft traditionally used in support of drug interdiction and law enforcement missions, was heavily used during Hurricanes Katrina and many storms thereafter, but has also seen many rotations overseas.

Puerto Rico Guard uses chat room as communication tool for Haiti operations

1st Lt. Tirso Peña, a navigator assigned to the Puerto Rico Air National Guard's 156th Airlift Squadron, monitor a chat room at the Puerto Rico National Guard joint operations center in San Juan, P.R. Multiple military units use the chat room to transmit information about the Haitian earthquake relief efforts. Peña said the JOC is relaying this information to Army aviation units on the ground in the Dominican Republic.

New Hampshire medevac unit supports Iraq

Spc. Aaron DeAngelis, a crew chief, Company C, 3/238th Aviation (Medevac) of the New Hampshire National Guard, and Spc. Andy Weis of the Michigan National Guard work together to inspect the tail rotor. The group is a joint unit with Soldiers from both New Hampshire and Michigan. They are based at Tallil; Al Kut; and Contingency Operating Base Garry Owen in Iraq. The group functions as an air ambulance unit responding to medical evacuation calls needing a helicopter to get patients to a medical facility quickly.

Master Sgt. Pfc. Quintavis B. Byrd, a gate sentinel from the Mississippi National Guard, watches gun trucks pass the main entry control point of Contingency Operating Location Q-West, Jan. 10. Byrd serves with A Company, 2nd Battalion, 198th Combined Arms, 155th Brigade Combat Team, a mechanized infantry unit out of Hernando, Miss., that provides force protection to Q-West. This day marked the unit's sixth month of ECP operations. There have been no security breaches during their tenure.
