North Dakota National Guard flood response readiness stronger than in previous years

A National Guard CH-47 Chinook helicopter crew drops several one-ton
sandbags on the spill-way of the Clausen Springs Dam near Kathryn, N.D.,
April 15, 2009. The one-ton sandbags are being lowered and positioned into a
place on the dam spillway so they will divert over-flowing water away from
an eroding area of the dam, caused by high water levels. The dam spill-way
is considered a flood water retarding structure designed to gradually
release rain water and spring melt from the dam reservoir. The erosion
occurring on the dam spillway is threatening to allow larger volumes of
water than intended to over-flow into a creek.

Management at an increasing rate to reduce the human factor in preventable 
mishaps. Under MRM, all risks are assessed before an Airman picks up his tools 
and any maintainer, regardless of rank, can halt operations if a danger is 
perceived.

Colorado Guardmembers, Reservists rescue civilians from wrecked, burning car

Remains of a green sedan following a fiery, one-car crash on Airport Road in Aurora, Colo., March 6, 2011. Seven Soldiers and Airmen rescued two victims from the burning car. The group was composed of Colorado National Guardmembers and Army Reservists who were on their way to drill that morning.
