North Carolina National Guard Apache pilots provide support for joint training at Ft. Bragg

New York Air National Guard's 107th Airlift Wing conducts final flight in C-130

New York Air National Guard Col. John J. Higgins, commander of the 107th Airlift Wing, is doused by his comrades Sept. 25, 2014, as he steps off of the aircraft following his "fini flight," his final flight as a navigator. It was the 107th Airlift Wing's final flight in a C-130 before converting to the MQ-9 mission.

Alaska Air Guard rescuers save three after plane crash

Soldiers from the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Regiment "Old Guard" unfurl and raise a hand-stitched replica of the 15-star, 15-stripe flag to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the defense of Fort McHenry, Sept. 14, 1814. The ascent of the stars and stripes would inspire 1st Lt. Francis Scott Key of the District of Columbia Militia to pen the immortal words that would become the national anthem. The flag was raised at exactly the same day and time as it was 200 years ago during the War of 1812.

During the March of the Defenders, in celebration of the bicentennial of the 'Star Spangled Banner,' more than 400 Service members marched six miles from Patterson Park to North Point on Sept. 11, 2014. In the war of 1812, the Maryland Militia marched to slow the British advance, while the city of Baltimore prepared its defenses.

Valorous Unit Award presented to Texas aviation regiment illustrates Guard 'warfight' mission

Rick Adams place the Valorous Unit Award on the "colors" of the 1-149th Attack-Reconnaissance Battalion during a ceremony held Feb. 8, 2014, at Ellington Field. The unit was awarded this high honor for exceptional performance during Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 1-149th is an AH-64 "Apache" battalion assigned to the 36th Combat Aviation Brigade and earned the award for their 2006-2007 deployment to Iraq.

Widow of fallen Soldier joins Florida Army National Guard

Pvt. Alecia Calloway is one of the newest members of the Florida Army National Guard. On Aug. 27, 2014, Calloway - a widow of an Army Soldier -  took the Oath of Enlistment at the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) in Jacksonville, joining the Florida Army National Guard’s 2153rd Finance Detachment.
