Pennsylvania Army Guard named tops in Guard facilities management

The Pennsylvania Army National Guard’s Construction and Facilities Management Office were recently awarded the National Guard's Fred Aron Award for Excellence in Facilities Programs for being the highest performing Guard program in the nation. Competitors are judged on 10 areas including construction, resource management, strategic planning and facilities management.

109th Airlift Wing wraps up 27th year of Antarctic science support

The 109th AW recently wrapped up its 27th season of flying the ski-equipped LC-130 in support of the operation, which provides military logistics support to the National Science Foundation’s Antarctic Program. The wing is the only unit in the U.S. military equipped with the LC-130 “Skibirds.”

National Guard cyber protection teams announced

Robinson, Arkansas. The Cyber Shield tested participants on a variety of real world cyber attack scenarios. As part of a continued commitment to cyber defense capabilities the first three of a planned 10 new cyber protection teams within the Army National Guard are planned to be activated within the next three fiscal years. The first team will spread between Michigan, Indiana and Ohio with the second and third teams to be located in Georgia and California.

Tennessee Army Guard teams assist local authorities with winter storm response

Soldiers from the Tennessee Army National Guard’s 267th Military Police Company check the welfare of a motorist stranded on Interstate 40 Friday night as a result of snow and ice storms that moved through the area. Soldiers from the unit patrolled more than 50 miles of highway during the worst of the storm assisting those who became stranded and bringing supplies to others. Soldiers from the Tennessee Army Guard are expected to remain on duty through Wednesday assisting local and state authorities with response to the storm.

The 1.2 square mile island has been iced in since freezing temperatures blanketed the commonwealth last week, making routine seaport deliveries impossible.

Texas-based Army aviation unit receives national award

A C-12 aircraft from Operational Support Airlift Detachment 49 takes off from Dallas Executive Airport en route to Austin, Texas. The detachment, commanded by Chief Warrant Officer 5 Todd Moorehead, was selected as the best fixed-wing unit in its category by the Joint Operational Support Airlift Center. They had just returned from receiving their award at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois.

National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program transforms young lives

A team of California Army National Guard Soldiers won their third title in a row at the U.S. Army Small Arms Championship at Fort Benning, Ga., Feb. 1-7, 2015. They fired in more than 20 matches using rifle and pistol against teams from the Reserves, Active Duty and ROTC. Team California took home the top trophy but also brought in numerous other team and individual awards that tested their stamina, aim, and knowledge of multiple guns and targeting scenarios.
