Alaska Army Guard Black Hawk crews help fight Alaska wildfires

Aircrews from the Alaska Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 207th Aviation Regiment, drop approximately 700 gallons of water on the Stetson Creek Fire near Cooper Landing, Alaska, June 17. Aircrews have flown roughly 200 bucket missions since Sunday, dumping more than 144,000 gallons of water on the 300-acre Stetson Creek Fire on the Kenai Peninsula. Aircrews have also been assisting with wildfire suppression efforts near Russian Lake, Alaska.

Kimberly Ice, a fellow member of the Security Forces Squadron, is all smiles with the accomplishment of Hopkins' performance during her physical training test. Hopkins, a member of the Bernalillo County Sheriff Department, was injured in the line of duty and was shot in the leg. This is her first PT test since that fateful incident.

The Alaska Army National Guard supported fire suppression efforts in June 2015 in and near Willow, Alaska. UH-60 Black Hawks from the 1-207th Aviation Regiment flew multiple missions, dipping their orange water buckets into waters east of Willow Lake and dropping thousands of gallons of water over the east side of the fire, about five miles north of Willow Airport. Sgt. Sonny Cooper, a crew chief for the 1st Battalion, 207th Aviation Regiment, flew on a crew during firefighting efforts, and operated the water bucket during missions.

Andrew Marxman, a survey team member for the 91st Civil Support Team, uses chemical detection paper to determine the basic chemical hazard of the substance during an exercise simulating a campus shooting and hazardous material release. The M-256A1 Chemical Detection Kit can be used to determine if the substance is a blood, nerve or blister agent.
