Eastside Fire Deputy Chief Rich Burke and Capt. Steven Johnson, Eastside Fire & Rescue, thank the Guard members during a ceremony on March 27, 2019, at the State Capitol in Olympia, Wash. Eastside Fire & Rescue honored the Guard for their support following record snow fall in February. The Guard provided critical support to first responders who could not get into side roads and driveways due to snow drifts and poor road conditions.

An aircrew with the Nebraska Army National Guard's 2nd Battalion, 104th Aviation Regiment, uses a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter to lower 1,500-pound sandbags into place to stem flooding from a breached levee along the Loup River, Nebraska. More than 340 Guard members have responded to flooding in Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa and other Midwest states.

Guard members to see changes in GI Bill transfer benefits

National Guard members will soon see changes to the program that allows them to transfer their Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits to their spouse or children that will limit the time frame they can initiate that transfer. Set to go in effect July 12, Guard members will need to have served six years before they can transfer benefits and they must transfer the benefits by the time they hit 16 years of service. Additionally, Guard members extend their enlistment contract by at least four years to transfer benefits.

New York Army National Guard Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment once again led the country's largest St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York, March 17, 2016. This year's parade will mark the 168th time the "Fighting 69th" has led the world's largest St. Patrick's Day Parade. The 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment first led the parade in 1851.
