Joint National Guard, Air Force Reserve team takes Gold Medal in NATO competition

Rwanda: Texas National Guard members, Rwandan Defense Force exchange best practices

Rwanda Defense Force soldiers and policemen practice their combat casualty care skills at a combat lifesaver course held June 11 to 15, 2012. The RDF invited U.S. Army medics from Task Force Raptor, 3rd Squadron, 124th Cavalry Regiment, Texas Army National Guard, to attend the seminar. The Texas National guard members participate in various military-to-military training sessions in support of Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa, whose mission is to strengthen partner nation military capacity in East Africa.

The Wyoming National Guard's 153rd Airlift Wing use a Modular Air Fire Fighting System equipped C-130 Hercules aircraft in support of the Waldo Canyon wild fire in Colorado Springs, CO on June 27, 2012. Four MAFFS-equipped aircraft from the 302nd Airlift Wing - an Air Force Reserve unit - and 153rd flew in support of the U.S. Forest Service as they fought fires in Colorado. MAFFS is a self-contained aerial firefighting system that can discharge 3,000 gallons of water or fire retardant in less than five seconds, covering an area one-quarter of a mile long by 100 feet wide.

The medical care provided by U.S. service members is part of Exercise Western Accord 2012, a multi-lateral exercise with Senegalese and several West Africa nations. The training exercise runs from June 26 - July 24 and involves the armed forces of Senegal, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Gambia and France, as well as U.S. service members – primarily Reservists from the Marines, Army, Navy, and Air Force.
