The AK RCC is the nerve center for search-and-rescue operations for an area of Alaska equivalent to one third the area of the Lower 48.

He received full military honors for his nearly 30 years of service, including 2,116 days in the North Vietnamese prison nicknamed the Hanoi Hilton.
