Friends devote decades to Honor Guard

Tech. Sgt. Mark Crabbe and Staff Sgt. Darrell Bactad, 204th Airlift Squadron information managers, practice Honor Guard ceremonial movements Oct. 4, 2019, at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. The friends have performed military ceremonies side-by-side in the Hawaii Air National Guard Honor Guard team since the early 2000s. Bactad joined the Honor Guard when it was established in 1999 and Crabbe joined two years later.

New vehicle Vismods could transform Army training

Employees of Westefx, a Hollywood special effects company, and a team of Idaho Army National Guards Soldiers transform an M1097 HMMWV into a T-72 Main Battle Tank using a visual modification kit at the Orchard Combat Training Center Oct 16., 2019 The National Guard Bureau contracted Westefx in 2018 to produce the kits, which fit over the chassis of a Humvee, to improve force-on-force training through realistic battlefield effects.

Alaska Air National Guard rescues bear-mauling victim

Alaska Air National Guard Tech. Sgt. Katelyn Magnuson, Alaska Rescue Coordination Center senior search-and-rescue controller, took the call and was responsible for planning for and controlling the rescue effort for the victim of a bear mauling near Galena June 10, 2019. The AK RCC is the nerve center for search-and-rescue operations for an area of Alaska equivalent to one third the area of the Lower 48.

Swamp Fox Airmen fly ‘Missing Man’ formation for former POW

Retired Air Force Col. Jack Van Loan, fighter pilot and Vietnam prisoner of war, was honored with a Missing Man flyover during his funeral at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Oct. 26, 2019. He received full military honors  for his nearly 30 years of service, including 2,116 days in the North Vietnamese prison nicknamed the Hanoi Hilton.

Mercer University students help JSTARS innovate scheduling

30th ABCT reunites with equipment in Kuwait
