Michigan National Guard provides drive-thru COVID-19 testing

Soldiers from the Michigan National Guard were in Baldwin on Aug. 14, 2020, providing free drive-through COVID-19 testing. Medics from the Michigan National Guard’s Task Force 182 have been providing the testing throughout the state for three months.

National Guard helps fight California wildfires

California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection issued more than 270 California National Guard Soldiers protective gear to begin hand crew training at Camp Roberts Aug. 23, 2020, to support firefighting efforts. The Guard members will supplement CAL FIRE and Cal Guard’s Joint Task Force Rattlesnake hand crews deployed to key locations such as the Carmel Fire, Jones Fire, Hills Fire and others throughout the state.

Idaho National Guard hoists injured man to safety

The Idaho Army National Guard Aviation Group helped rescue an injured man on a mountainside about 20 miles east of Idaho City Aug. 20, 2020, hoisting him to safety in a UH-72 Lakota helicopter. The 55-year-old man spent the night on the side of a mountain after rolling his all-terrain vehicle down a steep embankment.
