Rhode Island Air Guardsmen provide network security at Combined Endeavor

Air Force Master Sgt. Jeptha Gibbs, a member of the 102nd Network Warfare Squadron of the Rhode Island Air National Guard watches Master Sgt. Darryl McCaffrey also of the 102nd as he protects the computer network from malicious activity during a communications exercise during Combined Endeavor. Combined Endeavor 2010 is the world's largest communications interoperability exercise, preparing international forces' command, control, communications and computer systems for multinational operations.

Air Force Staff Sgt. Damien Falconer is the lone pest management specialist in the Nevada Air National Guard. It is his job to eliminate all of the creepy-crawly nuisances on his base in Reno. The mice were used for illustrative purposes and were safely returned to a pet store.

Capt. Robert Killian of the Colorado Army National Guard competes in the 13.1-mile run during the first-ever Boulder half-ironman. Prior to the run, he completed a 56-mile bike ride, and a 1.2-mile swim. His time of 4 hours and 10 minutes qualified him to be the Army’s male athlete at the World Championship Ironman in Kona, Hawaii, Oct 9, 2010.

Music, culture converge as Utah Band performs in Morocco

The Utah National Guard's 23rd Army Band performed in Kenitra, Morocco, the historic landing site of U.S. forces in World War II, July 3, 2010. Commanded by Chief Warrant Officer Denny Saunders, the band performed in these various musical teams: The Ceremonial 23rd Army Band, the Rock Band called "Article 15," the Jazz Combo, the brass quintet called "Five-star Brass" and other ensembles. The Utah National Guard joined with Morocco through the National Guard's State Partnership Program more than seven years ago. Since 2004, more than 75 events have been conducted between the Utah National Guard and the Moroccan military.

Slovenia hosts exchange training with Colorado Guard

Soldiers from Slovenian Army Special Operations and the Colorado Army National Guard's 5th Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne), practice explosive breaching techniques during a three-week Joint Combined Exchange Training exercise in Slovenia in June. Explosive breaching allows Soldiers to rapidly enter a building and disorient its occupants. This maintains surprise and momentum for friendly forces and usually results in decreased casualties on both sides.
