Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger named Air Force Brig. Gen. Mary J. Kight as the new adjutant general of the California National Guard, during a ceremony at Mather Air Field in Sacramento, Calif., on Feb. 2, 2010. He described her as a proven, courageous, loyal and honorable leader.

Redeploying Soldiers with the 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, file onto a C-17 Globemaster III Jan. 26 at Camp Taji, Iraq. More than 8,000 Soldiers left Camp Taji and Baghdad International Airport in a 16-day period, marking the first fixed-wing redeployment operation from Iraq.
