Alaska, Mongolia partnership flourishes with shared challenges

LTG H Steven Blum, chief of the National Guard Bureau; Lt. Gen. Tsevegsuren Togoo, chief of general staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces; and Maj. Gen. Craig Campbell, the adjutant general of the Alaska National Guard, attended the Pacific State Partnership Program Regional Workshop in Honolulu, Hawaii, in late January. The National Guard's State Partnership Program, which pairs U.S. states with foreign countries, is expanding in the Asia-Pacific region after successes in Europe, South and Central America and Africa. Mongolia and Alaska are partners.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. works with Hendrick Motorsports team members in a garage at the Daytona International Speedway Feb. 16 for NASCAR's Nationwide Series Camping World 300. Earnhardt drove the National Guard sponsored No. 5 car that day to finish third after starting 19th. The following day, Earnhardt drove the Amp/National Guard co-sponsored No. 88 car in NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series 50th running of the Daytona 500. He led that race three times for 12 laps and finished ninth.

The complex includes a state-of-the-art courtroom designed to facilitate military commissions. Joint Task Force Guantanamo conducts safe and humane care and custody of detained enemy combatants. The JTF conducts interrogation operations to collect strategic intelligence in support of the Global War on Terrorism and supports law enforcement and war crimes investigations.
