The new UH-72A Lakota light utility helicopter sits on the tarmac at the National Guard's Eastern Aviation Training Site at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa. The facility will provide all aviator and aircrew training on the new aircraft.

Minnesota signs National Guard's first family covenant

LTG H Steven Blum, chief of the National Guard Bureau, signs the Minnesota Military Family and Community Covenant at a ceremony at the Capitol Building in St. Paul, Minn., on June 16, 2008. Blum joined Secretary of the Army Pete Geren; Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty; Maj. Gen. Larry Shellito, the adjutant general of the Minnesota National Guard, and other military and civilian leaders and servicemembers' families for the ceremony which marked the National Guard's first official family covenant. The covenant lays out specific actions that military and civilian leaders can take to support servicemembers and their families.

At its peak, up to 6,000 Citizen-Soldiers and -Airmen increased security and vigilance along the nation's southern border under OJS, which began June 15, 2006, and ended July 15, 2008. The National Guard and CBP will continue to work together on engineering, counterdrug and other missions.

The 76th IBCT, along with many other sheikhs from the surrounding Balad area, are currently working together through the Iraqi-Based Industrial Zone program. The initiative compliments the Multi-National Forces-Iraq's mission by providing safe, secure jobs for local Iraqis and by giving them additional contracting opportunities normally reserved for larger, foreign corporations.

Kaumeheiwa and Garcia are among 173 officer candidates at the Alabama Military Academy's Officer Candidate School who completed a 7 mile road march that ended by completing one lap around the Speedway. One lap at the Speedway is approximately 2.6 miles.
MAFFS C-130 drops millionth gallon of fire retardant on California wildfires

The 302nd AEG includes eight U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft operating from McClellan Airfield, Sacramento, Calif., and eight U.S. Marine Corps medium- and heavy-lift helicopters flying from Naval Air Station Lemoore, Calif., providing unique capabilities and is part of a unified military support effort of U.S. Northern Command to provide assistance to California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, the National Interagency Fire Center, and U.S. Forest Service operations.
