From surf to snow: Hawaii Guard members learn cold weather survival tactics

Army National Guard Lt. Col. Air Guard crew plays vital role in South Pole evacuation

Air Force Maj. Josh Neilson (left) and Tech Sgt. Randy Powell played a major role in the evacuation of several fishermen badly injured off the Antarctic coast on Jan. 11, 2012. On Jan. 13, the two men were part of a New York Air National Guard air crew that flew the injured from McMurdo Station, Ross Island to Christchurch, New Zealand - a trip that covered about 2,300 miles.

North Dakota National Guard Biathletes Win Regional Competition

Fifty professionals from across the country and all branches of service from the rank of lieutenant colonel to brigadier general and DoD civilians attended a five-day course designed to provide a broad understanding of homeland protection missions, enabling technologies, architectures and current challenges. The course consisted of technical lectures, tours and hands-on exercises. Each lecture, tour and exercise was given by a leading expert at MIT Lincoln Laboratory.

Underground storage tanks were removed at Wright Army Airfield in Georgia. Due to the extensive amount of clay soil at this site, it was necessary to remove additional soil material to receive compliance. This site at Wright Army Airfield has now been partnered with Liberty County, Ga., as a 'joint-use airfield.'

Senior Airman Ephesians Bagorio, and Airman 1st Class Kameron Combis, both from the 332nd Expeditionary Communications Squadron, hold the Hawaiian state flag at an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia, Jan. 20, 2012. Bagorio and Combis graduated together from Barber's Point Campus of the Hawaii National Guard's Youth Challenge Academy. The academy is a program that helps misguided youth to become a working part of the community. Bagorio is deployed from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., and Combis is deployed from the Hawaii Air National Guard. Both are natives of the state of Hawaii.
