By Sgt. 1st Class Denis B. Ricou Louisiana National Guard

BATON ROUGE, La. – More than 1,200 members of the Louisiana National Guard helped clear roads and handled logistical support in response to a winter storm.

Since last week's storm, the LANG has supported civil authorities as needed to safeguard the population and protect critical infrastructure.

Using four engineer assessment teams and four engineer work teams, the LANG assessed 137 miles of road while clearing 111 miles of snow and debris from roads in three parishes.

The LANG also provided seven wreckers to help Louisiana State Police and state transportation officials clear Interstate 20, moving 260 disabled commercial vehicles.

The Guard also distributed over 1.2 million one-liter bottles of water to people in parishes affected by the storm and 414,400 gallons of bulk water to hospitals and other medical centers.

The LANG has provided 13 generators to six parishes to assist with water systems.
