Pennsylvania National Guard activates 1,500 troops for hurricane relief

FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. - The Pennsylvania National Guard is activating 1,500 troops in anticipation of the arrival of Hurricane Irene.

The troops are being prepositioned in key areas throughout the commonwealth should the need arise so they will be able to help as quickly and efficiently as possible. Personnel have begun to prepare vehicles, equipment and supplies including Humvees, power generators, potable water containers, shelf-stable food and medical supplies. Aviation assets, which can be equipped with slings and hoists, will also be on alert.
