National Guard Family Programs workshop kicks off in Kentucky

By Kentucky National Guard reports

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - More than 1,400 National Guard Family Programs volunteers converged here today to exchange ideas and share best practices as well as to provide training on current program policies and practices and new initiatives.

There’s a lot going on this week at the National Guard’s 2011 National Volunteer Workshop and Youth Symposium.

Highlighting the week will be the first-ever USO Homefront Concert, a joint effort between the USO and the Kentucky National Guard. This unique event will be broadcast live from Louisville Kentucky’s KFC YUM! Center on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.

Crews worked hard last week getting ready for this week’s workshop and Tuesday night’s concert with Montgomery Gentry. The concert is the capstone event for workshop attendees.

The USO Homefront Concert can be viewed live through the Pentagon Channel.

The anticipated audience includes 32 million homes in the U.S. and over 378 bases worldwide. The Pentagon will also uplink the program to Armed Forces Network (AFN) for distribution worldwide, including to ships at sea.

You can also set up a Watch Party with your family members by going to the USO Homefront Concert Facebook page. “Like” the page and sign up for the Watch Party online kit.
