Texas Guard trains on emergency response at Rangers Ballpark

By Army Staff Sgt. Jim Greenhill, National Guard Bureau

ARLINGTON, Texas, - The Texas Rangers teamed up with the Texas Army National Guard for an emergency response familiarization training exercise during the club's games with the New York Yankees on Sept. 11 and 12 here at Rangers Ballpark.

Members of B Company of the 2-142 Infantry Battalion of the Texas Army National Guard partnered with and observed the security and medical personnel from the city of Arlington and the Rangers as those individuals perform their responsibilities during the normal game-day operations at Rangers Ballpark. It included areas, such as medical response, crowd control, security operations, and traffic management.

"This is an important exercise that will allow the personnel from the Texas Army National Guard to train and observe in the area of emergency response during a large scale public gathering," said Rob Matwick, the Rangers' executive vice president of ballpark operations. "Fans attending the Friday and Saturday games will see members of the military in uniform working side-by-side with our regular game-day personnel. The Rangers are very pleased to be involved in this weekend's training exercise."

The soldiers from the Texas Army National Guard also participated in the pre-game ceremonies marking September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance.
