Oklahoma Army National Guard bombards blaze in support mission

GUTHRIE, Okla. - The Oklahoma Army National Guard supported local emergency officials on a fire suppression mission Monday with three U-H 60 Black Hawk helicopters equipped with bambi buckets for water drops.

The helicopters arrived in Guthrie, Oklahoma, about 9:30 a.m. and began dropping water near the intersection of Brown Avenue and South Douglas Boulevard just east of I-35 in Guthrie.

The helicopters can carry 660 gallons of water and can fly for about two hours before refueling. The helicopters can operate from dawn until dusk.

The Oklahoma Army National Guard is prepared to continue flying fire suppression missions as long as needed.
