Rhode Island Guardsmen walk Boston Marathon in memory of fallen comrade

By Rhode Island National Guard

CRANSTON, R.I. - For the fourth year, Soldiers from the Rhode Island Army National Guard will road march the Boston Marathon in memory of Staff Sgt. Christopher Potts.

Potts, a member of the Battery C, 1 Battalion, 103d Field Artillery Brigade of the Rhode Island Army Guard, was killed in action on Oct. 3, 2004 in Taji, Iraq.

The Soldiers will strap on their ruck sacks and set out on the 26.2-mile journey into Boston with the intent of carrying Potts' memory in support of the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP).

WWP is a non-profit organization created by Veterans to Support Veterans. With ongoing operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, the WWP serves to support and empower the Veteran's who served their country and were severely injured doing so.
