PEORIA, Ill. - Ten firefighters and three vehicles assigned to the 182nd Airlift Wing responded to Washington, Ill., to help with search and recovery operations in the tornado damaged area.
The Illinois Emergency Management agency reported at least six deaths and 54 injuries from the series of twisters Sunday that battered central Illinois.
The 182nd Wing's firefighters searched and cleared 30 homes for possible victims and assisted at a secondary staging area receiving food and water in Washington, Ill., which was hard hit by the tornado.
All personnel and equipment have returned to home station and no further National Guard involvement is anticipated, according to an early-morning situation report Monday.
The initial call for assistance came through the Mutual Aid Box Alert System (MABUS).
