Colorado National Guard continues mission at West Fork Complex fire

CENTENNIAL, Colo. - As the East Peak fire reaches near-full containment, the Colorado National Guard has completed its mission in Huerfano County, Colo.

Colorado National Guard Soldiers and Airmen are continuing support to civil authorities at the West Fork Complex fire in southwestern Colorado.

West Fork Complex Fire

  • One UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter outfitted with a hoist remains on standby for medevac and search-and-rescue if needed by the incident commander.
  • National Guard Soldiers and Airmen are manning multiple checkpoints around the fire area in support of local law enforcement.
  • Colorado Air National Guard Airmen are providing a phone, internet and radio communications platform to facilitate communications between civil and military authorities ended their mission June 30. 

Black Forest Fire

  • The Colorado National Guard is providing tents for non-governmental organizations to support relief and recovery efforts in El Paso County, Colo.
