Sisters embark on National Guard careers together

By Stephanie Beougher Ohio National Guard

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Hailey and Lexi Ireton are setting out on a new journey together as enlisted members of the Ohio Army National Guard.

“I love that my sister is in the Guard with me. It’s an amazing experience that I would love to share together,” Lexi said.

The Montgomery County residents joined to fulfill a long-time passion to serve in the military.

“I enlisted to better my future and serve my country, as this has always been something I’ve wanted to do. I’m excited for all of the challenges I’m going to face, and I’m looking forward to becoming physically and mentally stronger,” Hailey said.

Lexi will be using college tuition benefits through the National Guard to attend Wright State University in Dayton, and Hailey is a full-time hair stylist in her civilian career. Both will serve as chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) specialists in the 637th Chemical Company in Kettering, Ohio. Lexi recently completed Army basic combat training, while Hailey was scheduled to start her training in March.

“Some moments (at basic training) were rough and others were really fun. My advice for Hailey is just to believe in herself and know that she is capable of doing so much more than she thinks she can,” Lexi said.

The sisters’ biggest supporters are their parents, Mike and Lori Ireton.

“When the girls joined the Army National Guard I felt so proud and happy for them for making such great decisions for their futures,” Lori said. “I hope they succeed in everything they do, both in the military and their personal lives.”

Mike echoed his wife’s feelings of pride.

“I am extremely honored and proud of my girls’ selfless decision to express their patriotism and serve their country,” he said. “I look forward to seeing the transformation the military will have on them.”

With their family, including their military family, to support them, Lexi and Hailey are looking forward to the opportunities ahead of them as new members of the Ohio National Guard.
