Guardsmen provide water in five states

Kevin Offutt with the 186th Engineer Company in Dothan, Ala., help fill jugs with non-potable water for the citizens of Thomasville, Ala. Due to subzero temperatures, many residents in Thomasville and surrounding towns have been without water for almost a week. Brewer and Offutt, along with two other Alabama guardsmen, will remain in Thomasville for as long as there is a need.

A showcasing the UH-72A Lakota Light Utility Helicopter received by the Alabama National Guard was held Jan. 9, 2010. The aircraft will be used to provide support to military and civilian authorities. It will also be a useful tool for search and rescue missions for emergency operations.

Civilian Tom McBurney, a state employee in operations and maintenance at Yeager Airbase, Charleston, W.Va., works to remove snow, Jan. 5, 2010. State employees worked extended hours to remove snow and keep 130th Airlift Wing of the West Virginia Air National Guard operations up and running. Snow and emergency service started December 2010 and operations and maintenance has accrued nearly 300 hours of overtime.
