UPDATE: National Guard responds to Texas wildfires

Air Force Master Sgt. Jeff Tschacher, 153rd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Wyoming Air National Guard, directs a C-130H Hercules equipped with the Modular Airborne Fire fighting System, or MAFFS, to start engine two in preparation to fight wildfires burning in Texas, April 19, 2011. MAFFS is capable of dispensing 3,000 gallons of water or fire retardant in less than five seconds. The wildfires have spread across various parts of Texas and have burned 1.6 million acres miles of land.

Atlas Drop, an annual joint aerial-delivery exercise sponsored by U.S. Army Africa that brings together U.S. Army personnel with counterparts from the Ugandan Peoples Defense Forces, is designed to enhance the readiness of both countries’ resupply and logistical capabilities, and will consist of classroom instruction and a field training exercise.

The 313th Air Expeditionary Wing, which is supporting Operation Unified Protector, was given a nickname Calico Wing by the wing's commander, Brig. Gen. Roy Uptegraff. The 313th AEW operates from an air base in Western Europe. Operation Unified Protector is part of the international response to the unrest in Libya and enforcement of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973 of a no-fly zone over Libya. North Dakota Guard continues flood fight

The MTS is capable of acting as a navigation system and uses maps to mark roads that have been blocked off and communicates this information with other vehicles. The Ghanaian dignitaries are visiting the North Dakota National Guard as part of a State Partnership Program between the African country of Ghana and the North Dakota National Guard. Since 2003, the North Dakota National Guard has developed a professional relationship with Ghana as part of the National Guard State Partnership Program. This program aligns states with partner countries to encourage the development of economic, political and military ties.

The QRF is responding to a request from a farm resident through the Cass County Emergency Operations Center for sandbag assistance to create a flood levee barrier to rising water around his house. The tractor is one of the few vehicles light enough and high enough to cross a precarious section of flooded roadway leading to the farmstead without damaging the road.
