Parade tragedy spurs Oklahoma Guard members into action

Brent Pearce, of Edmond, Okla., and a member of Company E, 700th Brigade Support Battalion, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, is awarded the Army Commendation medal for his actions following a deadly accident at the Oklahoma State University homecoming parade in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on Oct. 24, 2015. Pearce was one of 45 Soldiers given medals for taking immediate action after a woman crashed through the crowd watching the parade, killing four and injuring more than 40 others. The Soldiers marched in the parade and were preparing to return to their armory when the accident occurred.

The Texas National Guard mobilized aviation assets from Austin, Grand Prairie and San Antonio to help combat the fire that burned about 4,200 acres and destroyed nearly one dozen homes.
